silence of the lambs

Firstly, as the trailer starts off the viewers will begin to hear a non diegetic sound of a certain low tone soundtrack which slowly turns into more fast pace music that is more earey music which starts to play on the mind of the audience. This will immediately begin to inform the viewers/audience or they will work out that the the rest of the trailer has a dark tale. The sound is also mirrored with sudden flashes of Hannibol Lector who is played by Anthony Hopkins. The close up of his face presents his character as very dangerous and foreshadowing his role as gruesome and conniving man this is show in the trailer as one part hows a detective saying ‘don’t let him get inside your head’ this shows that he is conning and very dangerous. A close up of Hannibol's smile looks very scary and suggests his character should not be trusted. This intrigues the audience to find out more about his sinister character and the deadly crime he has committed.

The first use of diegetic dialogue is when Hannibal asks "Do you spook easily starling?” as you watch the film trailer you are quickly informed that the film will have a horror and thriller aspects. This will make the audience to and figure out what is occurring and then this means anticipation is occurring then it leads to building tension. The question he asks could also be directed towards the viewers almost inviting them in to his crazy world and also braking the 3rd person act by speaking directly to the audience.

At 0:09- 0:11 Starling is locked into a mental hospital prisoner ward with Hannibal. when that gate closes it can signify that as soon as she has stepped inside that cell with Hannibal it can mean that there is no turning back which can lead to a mysterious act for the audience to follow and then a over the shoulder shot is used which connotes the idea that she is carefully being watched by guards to make sure nothing happens and then this could mean even the audience who feel they are a part of those who are spectating her. Making the viewers feel engaged and even scared for her. Also you can see her facial expressions as she is a rookie FBI agent and has no experience in working in the field she is also scared and that plays on the heart strings of the viewers as it makes them feel sorry for her.

Furthermore, there is a point of view shot of starling walking through the prisoner ward. Which makes the audience sympathize with her character because her job is very risky and life threatening. Which also makes the audience support her character. The shot of Starling walking also shows the audience that she is walking into the unknown, unaware of what will await her. A night vision camera shot is emerged in the scene at it is show as a high angle and what this does is that its meant to portray the character who is Starling as being vulnerable and weak.

the trailer also uses the mise en scene aspect very well. This is done by the setting alongside clothing and props. To establish the prison environment the criminal Hannibal is wearing blue-ish grey overalls. This will immediately tell the audience that he is a threat because its set in a prison and he’s behind the bars. Sterling looks very formal often wearing suits, with a badge to inform everyone of her status and authority. The prison is set in a dark setting underground, this may make the audience feel apart of the film and it my suggest to the audience something bad is going to occur.  Newspapers are some of the props used to show the popularity of Hannibol, this is shown in the film inside his cell it shows the audience Hannibol is looking up on himself as he likes the attention. It helps with keeping up with his story.
